When can you cancel your waste contract?
Enter the start date and the term and notice figures from your agreement. You'll get the last day of the current term, the exact dates your notice of non-renewal counts, a calendar file with both dates, and a letter with them filled in.
Where to find the figures
Look for the section headed Term or Term and renewal. WM's published commercial terms, for example, renew automatically and require notice between 90 and 180 days before the end of any term of 12 months or more; Republic Services' published terms renew for 12 months at a time and require notice at least 30 days before the end of the current term (sources on each clause page). See the notice window clause for how to read the wording, and automatic renewal for why the window keeps coming back.
Why the start date matters
The initial term often runs from the day service starts. If you count from the signing date and the containers arrived two weeks later, every date shifts by two weeks. Your first invoice shows when billing began.
